The Sweetest Pup Was Cruelly Dumped At A Bar All Because Of Her Disabilities
When the staff at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) got a call about a pup cruelly abandoned by somebody at a pub, they immediately packed up their gear and headed out to the site.
Since this wasn’t the first time they received a call about a pup just being left at a random location, they thought it was going to be just another rescue.
However, when they managed to locate the little pup, what they saw completely broke their hearts.
Special Pup
When Lauren Bailey, an inspector at the RSPCA, saw the little pup, she immediately noticed that there was something special about her.
The pup, later named Emmie, had a twisted spine and was physically unable to straighten her two front legs. Because of this, walking isn’t something that is enjoyable to her, especially when it comes to long distances.
The staff suspects that the five-month-old Chihuahua-Yorkie mix developed these deformities due to bad breeding. It is very likely that Emmie is a victim of a breeding trend where the breeders try to breed a “Teacup dog” – a dog very small in size, weighing in at 5 lbs. or under.
Unfortunately, what those breeders fail to consider is the fact that breeding such small dogs can more often than not lead to long-term issues in their health.
“Deformities can also be the result of bad nutrition and a poor start in life, with the mum and pups not getting what they needed during the most important first weeks and months of the pup’s life, leading to poor development,” a dog welfare expert with the RSPCA, Lisa Hens, said in a press release.
The RSPCA staff worried that they would have a hard time finding little Emmie a proper home suitable for all her needs. Luckily, their worries soon went away as one of the animal collection officers, Kate Wright, offered a helping paw to the sweetest girl.
New Life
Since Kate had recently lost a pup, she and her remaining dog weren’t able to find a way to cope. She knew that they needed something, or someone, new in their life in order to shift their focus and energy, so when she heard that this sweet girl needed a temporary home, she was all for it.
As soon as she arrived at her foster home, Emmi was determined to overcome all of the challenges brought to her by her disability and bring back the smiles to her new family.
“I cannot believe how happy and loving this little girl is when she has been so badly treated and let down by humans. She was so skinny and really weak when she arrived here. But she’s a little fighter and has a smashing little character. She’s really made herself at home and loves Saff and my other new foster, Ruby,” Kate said in a press release.
Even with her struggles to walk, Emmie never backs down from going out with her fosters and siblings.
And, since she has some difficulties keeping up, her loving foster parents thought of an incredible trick. They got her a special sling, so that they could carry her along when she gets tired.
“That way she can still enjoy the fresh air and be with the whole family — we’d hate to think she was getting left out,” she said.
Best Decision Ever
For the Wright family, having Emmie around not only allowed them to help a dog in need overcome her disabilities, but it also helped them bring a smile back to their faces. Sapphire and Kare got a new best friend forever.
After bringing such happiness and joy to the family, it didn’t take them long to realize that Emmie was there to stay.
“She’ll never go hungry again and will also have a cozy sofa to curl up on in the evenings. She probably won’t live into old age but she will now have a very happy, healthy life with us for as long as possible,” Kate concluded.
Final Word
It truly brings me so much joy to see that such a special animal was able to find the best place to live and thrive.
It is also very incredible knowing that there are people out there who do not judge dogs for the way they look, but they are able to see beyond that and appreciate them for their incredible personalities.
You guys are heroes!
