Missing Dog Receives Thanksgiving Miracle After 2-Month Wandering In The Mountains

For pet owners, reuniting with their missing dog is an incomparable experience and a feeling that can’t be described with words.

Nova, the family dog, experienced a true miracle after two long months of missing in the mountains of Meyer Ranch Park, Colorado. Two giant-hearted hikers spotted the dog, but the rescue mission itself was no picnic.

Even though Nova was glad to be found, her survival mode made the rescue mission a bit more complicated.

This is her story!

The Noble Act

When two hikers spotted Nova, she was evidently exhausted. The dog had an injured leg, and she was already in her survival mode. Hiding in bushes, Nova was extremely scared and didn’t let her saviors come near.

Still, the hikers knew the dog needed help and they didn’t want to leave her alone. They slowly approached Nova and tried to befriend her. Their initial goal was to carry the injured pup down the mountain and find some help, but her fear kicked in.

She responded aggressively and bit one of the hikers, which made the rescue mission a lot harder.

After a failed attempt to help the dog on their own, they contacted The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, who immediately responded. A group of animal control officers was sent to the spot alongside Jefferson County rangers.

One of the hikers stayed with the puppy and the other one climbed down the mountain to show the rescuers the exact location.

“They knew the pup needed help and they called us. One hiker remained with the dog while the other came down for medical help and to show rescuers where to go,” The JCSO wrote.

Saved Right On Time

With forces joined and a decent amount of hard work, the team managed to secure Nova. They somehow lured her out of the bush and muzzled her to protect themselves from potential biting.

The team successfully carried the dog down to the facility in a blanket, where she eventually got the much-needed care. Despite the fact that Nova was extremely timid and displayed fear-aggression, she relaxed once she realized that she was safe.

After the hard part of the job was done, the rescuers had another important task – to track down Nova’s owner. Luckily, that was the easier part of the rescue!

Thanks to the rangers who participated in Nova’s rescue mission, her owner was located quickly. One of them remembered a lost dog flier posted in the park a couple of months ago, helping Nova reunite with her owner in a heartbeat.

When the two finally met, Nova’s owner was very relieved to finally see his dog safe and secure. She told the rescuers that her furry girl went missing two months ago, and during that time she, unfortunately, she broke her leg.

Nova’s currently resting in her forever home, awaiting surgery. Her family cannot be more grateful for finally having their girl around. Her showing up right around the holidays was a true Thanksgiving miracle!
